Red petals (quick write)

Red petals scattered the ground, concealing cobblestones with a sea of red. The crimson path led through tattered curtains, hiding a long forgotten ball room. In a corner a girl sat, facing a faded picture of a family long past. As he knelt beside her, the glimpse of her face was enough to scare a small child. The skin was pulled so tightly to her cheek. Each  bone led to a deep gully before the next one began. Deep sunken eyes were glazed over with a glass like frost. Just as he was about to pull away she grabbed his arm, squeezing until he felt bones cracking. As he was about to let out a loud scream, the pain vanished. His eyes shot open, expecting the old faced girl to be there, but all there was before him lay a shattered skull and a wilted rose.
