Without Warning

Drop that glass bottle of our sin

Let it shatter around our feet

Separating us with shards ready to pierce delicate skin

Watch the last drop fall off my lip

Hitting the necklace you never gave me

Pull at the fabric of my dress until you hear it rip

Dismiss the sheets with a vigorous tug

Repeating the old habits formed since the day we met

And ending with the same indecisive shrug

A few days past without another call at one in the morning

I’m finding my way down this old avenue

The one that birthed this tragedy without warning
