I just rewrote and slightly changed this part and would love some feedback.
Lily let her thoughts wander to Jade, forgetting to watch her step in doing so and tripped over her own feet and crashed against Wolf Veins back.
She stumbled back. “Hey watch it.” Her feet still hadn’t steadied as she tried to pull back from her resting place. Just as Lily felt her ankle curving around a round stone, Wolf Vein grabbed her hands before she fell. Fear filled Lily as the pressure around her wrists increased. She quickly pulled her hands back.
“Sorry to scare you, but would you rather I let you fall on your ass.” His grin grew wider and his eyes intensified with satisfaction. “And if you weren’t so busy daydreaming over boys you wouldn’t have tripped in that pot hole.” He pointed past her to a small hole in the road just big enough for her foot.
“Oh.” She turned away from him, hiding her embarrassed face. “Then thanks for catching me I guess.” Wolf Vein was already walking away when she thanked him and she rushed to catch up to him. When she finally did she saw fear had taken over his eyes.
He stood, staring down at his phone.
“What’s wrong. You look worried.” Before Lily could read what the message said he pushed the phone into his pocket. “Let’s keep going.
Everything will be fine.”
“Look I’m sorry bout earlier for the desperate comment. I didn’t mean it like that. I just don’t find you attractive.”
“Excuse me? Not attractive? That’s a load of bullshit.”
“It’s not my fault you’re such a brute. Maybe if you weren’t such a hard head.”
“Can you be anymore rude?” He turned away and when he regained eye contact Lily felt a hard smack to the gut.
Their eyes met as Lily lunged to tackle him. She almost had him when Wolf Vein caught his arm around her.
Wrapping a second arm around her, he pulled her in. The four inches he had on her became apparent. Lily looked up towards him. They were face to face. Lily tried to pull away, but his grasp was firm. A smile went across his face. He leaned in putting his cheek against hers whispering in her ear.
“It’s just like when we were kids.” He pulled back and put his forehead to hers. She could feel his breath on her mouth. It was sweet, freshly cleaned with a hint of mint. Less than an inch of space separated their mouths.
The urge to feel them intertwined rushed through Lily’s body. She told herself to pull away, but she couldn’t. His gentle eyes had kept her still.
Suddenly the distance increased and Lily was broke from her trance.
“You’re still too slow.” With a swift change in positions, Lily was quickly on the ground with Wolf Vein standing over her laughing.
“Oh go to hell. That hurt.” Lily slowly started to rise to her feet. Before she could, Wolf Vein was sitting on her.
“Now, now. Those aren’t very kind words little Lily pad. You shouldn’t be so mean. And I was going to be nice and treat you to dessert at my place after the meeting.” He smirked at her as she started blushing. That nickname, it stung and threatened to send tears down her cheeks. To make it worse he pushed his face to hers. He grinned and suddenly hoped off her.
