The distance from the shore grew as time passed the pair of misfits. It had been so long since either felt as free as they did now. The future was unknown, but anticipated to be amazing.
As land became a blur and nothing but white waves surrounded them, the boy, roughly of sixteen years, found him staring at his companion in new light. He blonde hair blew across her face as water splashed up at them. The sun reflected off her light skin, giving a golden glow to virgin cheeks, untouched by the sun for most their lives.
“What is it?” She met his gaze before his fell to the floor.
“It’s nothing. I was just thinking.”
She let his answer be, despite her disappointment. After everything he still kept his secrets. His hand was a few inches from hers, just close enough for them to brush against each other when the waves changed direction
He let the fragile finger entangle within his, lightly giving hers a tender squeeze of assurance.
In just a few days they would be reaching their own new nirvana, the place said the be a sanctuary for anyone lost or forgotten.
She was the lost, he the forgotten. And both ready for their new beginnings.
